Week of November 6, 2023 Fishing Report

We are still seeing a fair amount of fall baetis around with fish rising to emergers and cripples beginning around 10:30am weather dependent. Rising fish can be targeted nicely during this hatch with a low riding dun, emerger or cripple pattern with a nymph /emerger dropper.

Patterns: Snow shoe Baetis #22, Last Chance Cripple – BWO 20-22, Brooks Sprout Baetis 20-24, Cripple Thor 22. CDC Baetis 20-22, Harrop’s Hanging midge 20-22.

Nymphing has been very productive on the fall run of brown trout. We’ve been pairing a hot beaded scud or sow bug with a baetis nymph or midge very successfully over the last week. We’ve focused our attention on deep stable pools and below the spawning beds where we are picking up some decent rainbows. Both suspension nymphing at various depths and Euro nymphing techniques have been producing fish especially in the deeper staging water for migratory fish.

Patterns: Midge Larva 18-22 (olive, red, black, cream) – always and forever, Fire Bead Ray Charles 18, Hot spot sow bug 16-20, Tungsten Sunkist 16, Scuds 12-16 (pink, orange, tan/pink, gray olive), Tungsten UV Czech nymph. Dark Olive and Copper pheasant tail 20-22, Olive Cheeseman Emerger 22.

Streamers have been picking up some descent brown trout up and down Paradise Valley as well as in the spring creeks. Its that time of year for the streamer bite.

Patterns: Rowley’s Balanced Leach, Rowley’s Feather Leach, Sparkle minnow (olive and black), Circus Peanut, Home Invader. Galloup style streamers.
